Albulena Haxhiu, Speaker of the Assembly of Kosovo, stated that in March 1998, the Jashari household was like any other home in Kosovo.
She recalled that at dawn on March 5th, large Serbian police forces encircled the village.
In her address, Haxhiu emphasized that Commander Adem Jashari and his family knew the gravity of the day:
“During three days of fighting, the entire history of Kosovo passed through the Jashari family and their steadfast resistance to leave their land. In that house, fully aware of the danger approaching, no one fled. The sacrifice of all of them remains the foundation of our nation’s resistance.”
She added that after Prekaz, the KLA became an irreversible reality.
Haxhiu stressed that the Epopeya is not merely an event, but an enduring message: that sacrifice for freedom can change the course of history.
“The land of Prekaz is heavy not only because of what happened there, but especially for what it asks of us. It demands maturity, character, and unity in difficult times. It calls for freedom to be preserved and advanced, not misused.”
