Donald Trump appeared uncertain about whether he would respect the deadline he had set for Tehran regarding the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, emphasizing that the final decision would depend on the progress of negotiations.

“I don’t know yet. I don’t know. Mr. Steve Witkoff and JD Vance and Jared Kushner will tell me if they think the talks are going well, and if they’re not, maybe not,” Trump stated, referring to Vice President JD Vance, special envoy Steve Witkoff, and his son-in-law Jared Kushner, whom he has entrusted with managing the negotiations.

The initial deadline had expired last Monday; however, the U.S. president had extended it until Friday to allow for continued diplomatic contacts.

On the eve of the new deadline, Trump suggested that there is still room to reach an agreement.

“We have plenty of time. You know what a day means in ‘Trump time’? One day – you know what that is? It’s an eternity,” he said, implying that talks are still ongoing and there may be further flexibility regarding the timeline.
