The Norwegian Parliament approved on Thursday a law for the temporary reduction of taxes on gasoline and diesel, following a surge in fuel prices caused by the conflict in the Middle East, Reuters reports.

The vote was fast-tracked after a proposal from the Conservative Party, bypassing the normal budget process. According to Finance Minister Jens Stoltenberg, the measure will cost the state at least 3.3 billion Norwegian kroner (approximately $342 million).

Temporary reductions in CO2 taxes were also approved, with the Centre Party casting the decisive vote in support of the cuts.
