Former MP of the Assembly of Kosovo and current PSG executive board chairman Petar Miletić has strongly criticized recent developments in Serbia, drawing parallels between today’s political climate and the 1990s.

According to Miletić, the current leadership under Aleksandar Vučić is applying the same methods once used during the era of Slobodan Milošević—relying on police force rather than dialogue when facing public dissent.

“When Albanians in Kosovo protested in the 1990s, the response was always repression—sending police and using force. Unfortunately, the same thing is happening today in Serbia toward students and citizens demanding their rights,” Miletić stated.

He emphasized that the political legacy of the 1990s continues to shape present-day governance, making it difficult to build a system that respects democratic dialogue and civil rights.

Miletić argued that this reflects a persistent inability within the ruling structures to engage in meaningful political compromise, noting that force remains their primary tool in addressing opposition.

“These political structures have never developed a democratic culture of communication. For them, force remains the only solution,” he added.
