Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani abruptly canceled his planned visit to Serbia at the last moment, despite official arrangements already being in place, according to diplomatic sources cited by N1.

Tajani was scheduled to depart from Rome on Wednesday morning, but the flight was reportedly canceled shortly before takeoff.

Sources described the move as highly unusual for a pre-arranged diplomatic visit, particularly given that Serbian protocol officials were already present at Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport awaiting his arrival.

Meeting with Vučić Postponed

The visit included a scheduled meeting with Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, which has now been postponed indefinitely.

A brief statement published on the president’s official website confirmed the delay:

“The announced meeting between the President of the Republic of Serbia and the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Italy, Antonio Tajani, scheduled for April 1, 2026, has been postponed. A new date will be announced in due course.”

The meeting had been planned to take place at the Palace of Serbia.

No Official Explanation Yet

As of now, no official explanation has been provided for the sudden cancellation, raising questions about the circumstances behind the decision.

Diplomatic sources note that such last-minute changes are rare in high-level international engagements, particularly when logistical preparations have already been finalized.
