The resolution proposed by the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) to reduce excise and VAT on fuel, also supported by the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) and the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK), was not put to a vote during today’s Assembly session.

Only 27 deputies were present, and the discussions were marked by tensions and clashes between government and opposition representatives.

Deputy Speaker Ardian Gola stated that the vote on this resolution will be postponed to the next session.

The resolution was opposed by the ruling Vetëvendosje (LVV), arguing that lowering the excise would have a minimal effect for citizens while causing significant losses to the state budget.

The proposal included:

  • A temporary reduction of the fuel excise from 36 cents per liter to 20 cents until prices stabilize.
  • A reduction of VAT on fuels from 18% to 8%.
  • Subsidizing fuel prices for sensitive economic sectors, including agriculture, public transport, and local producers.
