A commercial ship linked to Israel has been struck by an Iranian drone in the Strait of Hormuz, according to Iranian state media. The vessel, which was sailing toward Israel, caught fire in the key maritime route that has been largely closed since the outbreak of the conflict.
The incident was also confirmed by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), which stated that it had targeted the commercial ship MSC Ishyka with a drone.
“A drone struck a vessel linked to the Zionist regime in the Strait of Hormuz. The ship caught fire,” the IRGC naval forces said in a statement on X, identifying the vessel by name.
The incident comes at a time when Iran is seeking to exert influence over maritime trade and prices in the global economy.
