At least three people were killed and five others injured this Tuesday after rockets fired from the direction of Kuwait struck a residential building in the Khor al-Zubair area, near the city of Basra, according to security and health sources cited by Reuters.

Local police stated that the death toll could rise, as several family members are believed to still be trapped under the rubble of the destroyed building.

Emergency and civil defense teams responded immediately to the scene, working to rescue survivors and recover bodies from the debris.

The injured have been urgently transported to nearby hospitals, where they are receiving necessary medical treatment.

Authorities have launched an investigation to clarify the circumstances of the attack and confirm the origin of the rockets, while the situation in the area remains tense.
