Radomir Lazović of the Green-Left Front (ZLF) criticized Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić’s comments suggesting that early parliamentary elections may be postponed this summer if a “major global crisis” arises.

Lazović said Vučić’s statement, which implied that the world is awaiting his stance on crises in Iran, the U.S., China, and Russia, “sounds like an excuse detached from reality.” He emphasized that while global events do affect Serbia, the primary impact comes from “having a criminal group in power” domestically.

“Vučić will try to avoid elections as long as possible, aiming to change the current unfavorable situation,” Lazović added.

Lazović also drew comparisons with Hungary, noting that the government there is similar to Serbia’s, but said recent polls suggest a potential political shift.

In related parliamentary news, the Serbian Assembly’s Defense and Internal Affairs Committee rejected a proposal by ZLF lawmaker Bogdan Radovanović to discuss a recent incident near Kanjiža, where explosives were found close to a gas pipeline. Lazović called the episode “an international scandal” and suggested it has wider implications for European security.

He raised questions about the involvement of military intelligence rather than civilian agencies, noting, “If they already had information that only a few people were involved, why stage a whole show? And if the show was justified, who was really present?” Lazović compared it to previous instances where Vučić warned of assassination threats but no explanations were provided.

Since February, Lazović highlighted nine explosive incidents in Belgrade, criticizing the city’s mayor for relying on barricades rather than comprehensive security measures.

Regarding Vučić’s consultations with political parties, Lazović said ZLF was not invited and dismissed the process as “manipulative.” He reiterated the party’s stance advocating for early elections and continued European integration, noting that these goals cannot advance under Vučić’s leadership.
