Four people were injured, some seriously, during a large-scale police operation on Thursday afternoon in the Swiss canton of St. Gallen, authorities confirmed.

According to cantonal police, a 51-year-old man, identified as a Serbian national without a fixed address in Switzerland, has been arrested in connection with the incident. Investigators stated that there is strong suspicion of a violent crime.

Emergency services were initially alerted after receiving a call about a 73-year-old injured man. Upon arriving at a residential area in the municipality of Au, officers discovered three additional victims — all women aged between 57 and 87.

Two of the injured were airlifted to hospital by rescue helicopters due to the severity of their condition. Authorities have not yet released further details regarding the extent of the injuries or the current health status of the victims.

Preliminary information suggests that two of the injured women may have been visiting the other victims at the time of the incident.

The Public Prosecutor’s Office in St. Gallen has launched an investigation to determine the circumstances of the attack, including the suspect’s role, possible motives, and whether additional individuals were involved.
