U.S. Vice President JD Vance said that the United States and Iran failed to reach an agreement following high-stakes peace talks held in Islamabad.
Vance stated that Iran chose “not to accept our terms,” adding that Washington needs to see a “fundamental commitment” from Tehran not to develop nuclear weapons.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry described the talks as “intensive” and called on the U.S. to refrain from what it labeled “excessive and unlawful demands.”
There was a clear sense of disappointment surrounding the outcome of the negotiations.
Earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump said that it “doesn’t matter” to him whether a deal is reached, adding, “no matter what happens, we win.”
Meanwhile, Israel continues to strike targets linked to Hezbollah. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he seeks a lasting peace agreement with Lebanon, while emphasizing that Israel’s campaign against Iran “is not over yet.”
