British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has said that the United Kingdom does not support a blockade of Iranian ports, stressing that efforts should instead focus on reopening the Strait of Hormuz to stabilize global energy markets.
Starmer said that ensuring the Strait remains open is the fastest way to bring down rising energy prices.
“This is how we bring energy prices down as quickly as possible,” he said, according to the BBC.
When asked whether he holds U.S. President Donald Trump personally responsible for rising energy costs in the UK, Starmer avoided a direct answer. He instead emphasized the importance of international coordination to de-escalate tensions and restore maritime access.
He added that Iran is responsible for the current restrictions in the Persian Gulf region, while insisting that the UK is not seeking to be drawn into military escalation.
