The European Union has approved a €90 billion loan for Ukraine, after Kyiv resumed pumping Russian oil through a pipeline to Hungary and Slovakia, ending a months-long deadlock tied to the funding.
Shortly after the development, EU ambassadors meeting in Cyprus gave preliminary approval to both the loan and a 20th package of sanctions against Russia, officials told BBC.
EU leaders are expected to formally sign off on the package at an informal summit on Thursday.
Although the funding had been agreed upon in December, outgoing Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán vetoed the disbursement in February after Ukraine reported that damage caused by a Russian attack had halted supply flows.
