On the official account of the now-deceased writer Rexhep Qosja, the letter he had written in 2016 has been published, in which he left his wishes to his nephew, Valjet.
At the beginning of his letter, Qosja wrote that he wishes to be buried without a religious ceremony and without official presence.
Full letter:
TO MY NEPHEW VALJET,
WHO TOOK CARE OF MY LIFE AND FROM WHOM I ASK TO TAKE CARE OF MY BURIAL
Since I have lived believing in scientific thought, in spiritual development and in social progress, which it makes possible, I wish to be buried without religious ritual.
Since I have lived and thought, for most of my time, expressing critical views toward rulers and their governments, I wish to be buried without any official presence.
I want my burial to be done only by my family members.
Since I have taken care to live simply, I want to be buried in the same way: without speeches, without media, without flowers, next to the grave of my wife Shpresa.
I die in peace.
Since I have dedicated my life, intellectual creativity and political activity to the freedom, unity and democratic well-being of the Albanian people, I can say that neither to state Albania nor to Kosovo, of their present and future, have I remained in debt. If Kosovo owes me anything – this may be said by future historians of Albanian literature, culture and political thought.
I do not think I die without any sin.
Since I have grown up, lived and worked in political and social conditions which, even after the liberation of Kosovo and the creation of its state, were very harsh, I cannot say that my expressed disagreements were always free from some harsher judgments and evaluations than they should have been. Nevertheless, I await burial convinced that I have lived, created and acted doing good, preaching good and spreading humanity.
