Kosovo Serb R.T. was arrested in Serbia on 30 July.
He is believed to have been interviewed 23 years ago by UNMIK and the Kosovo Police about a horrific crime committed by Serbs and covered up by Serbian forces, in which Albanian civilians were robbed, killed and buried in a mass grave.
Serbian media immediately began a propaganda campaign, describing him as an Albanian spy and even a traitor.

However, R.T. was not the only person interviewed about the horrific crime committed against Albanian civilians. There was another Serbian witness who was killed by Serbs two days after giving his testimony.
Labelling Serbs who reveal the locations of mass graves containing Albanian civilians as “spies” appears to be a policy of Serbia’s ruling regime, one that was publicly expressed in 2020 by Interior Minister Ivica Dačić.
In a statement widely viewed as a threat, he said:
“What are we going to do with the Serbs who give information to Albanians and Croats? … They show them where Albanians are buried across Serbia. They repeatedly investigate certain locations reported by certain spies.”
