U.S. President Donald Trump appears to be seriously considering the possibility of escalating the conflict with Iran.
According to Trump, a decision is expected soon, while his early return from a weekend at Camp David has fueled speculation about a possible military development.
In a phone interview with Fox News on Sunday, Trump outlined three scenarios for Iran: reaching an agreement with the United States, allowing the country’s economic situation to deteriorate, or, as he put it, “destroying” Iran.
“My question is: when and if I destroy the whole country?” Trump said, adding: “They better behave.”
The U.S. president’s remarks come as the conflict between the United States and Iran enters its seventh month. Trump has repeatedly signaled that he is considering two main options: intensifying military operations or reaching a new agreement with Tehran.
Earlier in the week, Trump told Axios that he faced “a very important decision” regarding the possibility of “destroying” the Iranian regime.
