Political analyst Visar Ymeri asserts that the armed attack in Banjska serves as the clearest evidence that Kosovo must maintain constant coordination with international partners on matters of security and justice.

Speaking on the “Debat Plus” program, Ymeri emphasized that the implications of the Banjska event cannot be overstated, particularly regarding the strategic importance of international cooperation.

The Necessity of Alliances

Ymeri addressed previous rhetoric from Prime Minister Albin Kurti concerning the possibility of taking state actions “with or without coordination.” According to the analyst, the Banjska crisis effectively settled that debate, proving that coordination is not just a preference, but a necessity for national survival.

“The indictment and the victory of the battle in Banjska would not have been possible without international cooperation,” Ymeri stated.

He highlighted that the intelligence, logistical support, and high-level backing from international partners were instrumental in helping Kosovo’s institutions manage the immediate threat and the subsequent legal fallout.

Police Success and International Support

While Ymeri praised the Kosovo Police for their professional response—successfully repelling a heavily armed and organized group within hours—he maintained that this operational success was bolstered by the “safety net” provided by international factors.

According to Ymeri, the Banjska case demonstrated two things:

  1. Operational Capability: The Kosovo Police are capable of handling high-intensity threats.
  2. Strategic Reliance: Long-term security and legal accountability for such attacks depend on a unified front with Western allies.

The analyst concluded that for Kosovo to effectively pursue justice against the perpetrators and prevent future incursions, the bridge between Pristina and its international monitors must remain strong.
