A parliamentary session is expected to take place on Monday in an attempt to elect the president of Kosovo, as political parties have yet to reach a consensus on a candidate.

The announcement was made by the Speaker of the Assembly, Albulena Haxhiu, who confirmed that the session is scheduled for April 27, 2026.

So far, no agreement has been reached between the main political parties regarding the presidential vote. The process remains stalled due to a lack of compromise among parliamentary groups.

Over the weekend, the Vetëvendosje Movement (LVV) called on the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) and the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) to propose three non-partisan candidates with credibility and proven public trust.

PDK has rejected the request to propose names, while LDK has expressed willingness to engage, mentioning former president Vjosa Osmani as a potential candidate, under the condition that LVV guarantees 66 votes for election.

LVV parliamentary group leader Arbërie Nagavci stated on Sunday that no formal or concrete proposals have been received from either PDK or LDK.

The outcome of today’s session remains uncertain, as political negotiations continue behind the scenes without a final agreement.
