Acting Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, met today with the Premier of the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW), Hendrik Wüst, during his official visit to Germany.

The meeting focused on the historical ties between the two regions and explored new avenues for economic and educational cooperation.

A Foundation of Solidarity

During the discussion, Acting Prime Minister Kurti expressed deep gratitude for Germany’s long-standing support. He specifically highlighted:

  • Humanitarian Aid: Germany’s role in hosting Kosovar refugees during the 1998–1999 war.
  • Post-War Reconstruction: The decisive contribution of German aid and expertise in rebuilding Kosovo’s infrastructure and institutions.

Kurti emphasized that this historical solidarity remains the bedrock of the current partnership between Pristina and Düsseldorf.

Strengthening Economic and Cultural Ties

A central theme of the meeting was the role of the Kosovar diaspora in North Rhine-Westphalia—one of the largest in Germany. Both leaders discussed how the diaspora can serve as a bridge to:

  • Increase Trade: Boosting bilateral trade exchanges and joint economic activities.
  • Professional Education: Expanding cooperation in vocational training and educational exchanges to align Kosovo’s workforce with modern market demands.
  • Cultural Exchange: Promoting deeper cultural understanding through joint initiatives.

The visit comes at a time when Kosovo is looking to diversify its economic partnerships within the European Union, with North Rhine-Westphalia serving as a key industrial and economic hub.
