Health authorities in France have begun partially lifting isolation measures for around 1,700 passengers aboard a cruise ship that arrived at the port of Bordeaux following a suspected outbreak of Norovirus.

According to officials, laboratory tests confirmed that the outbreak involved a viral gastroenteritis infection and not a more dangerous disease, initially ruling out concerns over other serious viruses.

Under the new measures, passengers without symptoms are now being allowed to disembark, while individuals showing signs of illness must remain isolated until full recovery.

More than 1,700 people were on board the vessel, mainly British and Irish tourists. Around 50 passengers reportedly experienced symptoms including vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain.

French authorities also confirmed that a 92-year-old passenger died during the voyage, while investigators have not ruled out the possibility that the outbreak may have been linked to food served on board.

The cruise ship began its journey on May 6 and stopped in several European cities before docking in Bordeaux, where emergency health measures were implemented.
