Albanian authorities have dismantled another cyber fraud operation involving fake websites designed to imitate the official Albanian Post service in an attempt to steal citizens’ personal and banking data.
The operation, codenamed “Fake Post 2,” was carried out by Albania’s Cybercrime Investigation Structures in cooperation with the Sarandë Police Commissariat.
According to investigators, foreign nationals created fraudulent websites resembling the official Albanian Post platform and sent deceptive SMS messages containing phishing links. The scheme aimed to trick citizens into entering sensitive personal and banking information, which would then be used for illegal financial gain.
As part of the operation, police arrested a 22-year-old French citizen identified as Z.K., while a 53-year-old German national, identified as T.M., was declared wanted as a suspected accomplice.
Authorities seized mobile phones, SIM cards, bank cards, various documents, and other materials believed to be connected to the criminal activity.
The case has been referred to the Prosecutor’s Office at the Court of First Instance of General Jurisdiction in Sarandë for further investigation on charges related to “computer forgery.”
Albanian State Police urged citizens not to click suspicious links sent through SMS, email, or social media, to always verify official institutional websites before entering personal or banking information, and to immediately report any suspected online fraud cases to authorities.
