PRISTINA, Kosovo — A bipartisan delegation from the United States House of Representatives, consisting of Republican Congressman Keith Self and Democratic Congressman Suhas Subramanyam, is scheduled to conduct a high-stakes official visit to Kosovo and the Preševo Valley from May 26 to May 28, 2026.

The diplomatic mission, organized at the explicit request of the advocacy group Albanians for America, comes amid heightened congressional focus on Western Balkan security, democratic stability, and the rights of ethnic minorities in the region.

Security Briefings at Camp Bondsteel and State Meetings

During their time in Kosovo, the American lawmakers will hold a series of high-level meetings designed to reinforce the strategic partnership between Washington and Pristina. A key focal point of their itinerary will be a visit to Camp Bondsteel, the primary base for U.S. and international forces in Kosovo, where they will receive strategic briefings from NATO and American security chiefs on regional threat matrixes.

The delegation’s agenda in Pristina includes:

  • Bilateral talks with central government institutions of the Republic of Kosovo
  • Strategic assessments with international security authorities
  • Roundtables with civil society leaders, media representatives, and independent watchdogs

Deepening Advocacy for Kosovo’s NATO Membership

The visit highlights the intensifying, proactive push by U.S. lawmakers to anchor Kosovo firmly into Western security architectures. Congressman Keith Self has emerged as a central champion for Pristina’s Euro-Atlantic path.

   │
   └─► May 2026 ──────► Co-sponsors House Resolution backing Kosovo's NATO accession

Just three weeks ago, Self, alongside Congressmen Ritchie Torres and Mike Lawler, introduced a formal resolution in the House of Representatives expressing unequivocal U.S. support for Kosovo’s entry into NATO. The resolution formally praises Kosovo’s functional democracy, robust civil control over its security apparatus, and resilient multi-ethnic character as foundational qualifications for alliance membership.

Factory of Fact-Finding: Moving to the Preševo Valley

Following their engagements in Kosovo, the congressional delegation will travel directly to the Preševo Valley—a region in southern Serbia with a structural Albanian majority.

The lawmakers will meet with the Albanian National Council, local political leaders, and the municipal chiefs of Preševo and Bujanovac. The meetings are poised to focus directly on systemic rights abuses, political disenfranchisement, and the controversial bureaucratic erasure of ethnic Albanians from local registries by Serbian authorities.

The field visit aligns with Congressman Self’s legislative push in January, when he introduced the Preševo Valley Discrimination Assessment Act to Congress. The proposed act legally mandates a comprehensive U.S. investigation into Belgrade’s human rights practices toward the Albanian community across Preševo, Bujanovac, and Medveđa.

The organizing group, Albanians for America, expressed deep gratitude to both Self and Subramanyam for their enduring commitment to the Albanian interest, regional peace, and the long-term alliance between the American and Albanian peoples.
