U.S. President Donald Trump said that he helped mediate efforts to reduce tensions between Israel and Hezbollah, announcing that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had agreed not to send troops into southern Beirut.
In a post on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump said he held a “very productive” phone call with Netanyahu, during which, according to him, an agreement was reached to avoid any military advance toward the Lebanese capital.
“There will be no troops going into Beirut, and any force that had been heading in that direction has been turned back,” Trump wrote.
The U.S. president also stated that, through senior representatives, discussions had been held with Hezbollah, which, according to him, agreed to halt attacks against Israel.
According to Trump, the arrangement provides for an end to all exchanges of fire in order to prevent further escalation of the conflict and preserve the ceasefire in Lebanon.
As of now, there has been no official confirmation from either the Israeli government or Hezbollah regarding the statements made by the U.S. president.
