A building located in the Bosniak Mahala has been transformed into a museum more than two decades after a massacre took place there, becoming a site of historical remembrance for the victims.

Authorities say the facility will serve to document crimes and educate future generations about the past.

More than 27 years after the massacre in Bosniak Mahala in North Mitrovica, the house where the crime occurred has been converted into a museum. One resident of the neighborhood recounted the events of that day.

“Nine people were lined up against a wall and told, ‘You are going to Albania.’ Forty others were killed here; not only killed, but also burned. Neighbors said that their screams were heard all the way to heaven,” she said, according to RTK.

The house that has now been turned into a museum belonged to the Sahiti Family from Mitrovica.

According to local authorities, the museum is intended to preserve the memory of the victims, document atrocities committed during the conflict period, and ensure that future generations learn about the human cost of war.
