Iranian media have indicated that talks between Tehran and Washington are continuing, although the country’s chief negotiator has warned of escalation if Israeli attacks on Lebanon persist.
On Tuesday, the semi-official Iranian news agency Mehr reported that the final draft of Iran’s proposal for a temporary ceasefire agreement with the United States remains “under discussion,” suggesting that negotiations have returned to track after the state-linked Tasnim News Agency reported on Monday that talks had been suspended due to Israel’s ongoing military operations in Lebanon.
However, in a post on X on Tuesday, Iran’s chief negotiator and Parliament Speaker, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, suggested that Iran could move beyond diplomacy and confront Israel if the attacks continue.
During a conversation with Nabih Berri, a key ally of Hezbollah, Ghalibaf stated:
“I emphasized that if the crimes of the Zionist regime in Lebanon continue, we will not only stop the course of negotiations, but we will also stand against them. Long live the brotherhood between the peoples of Iran and Lebanon.”
The remarks highlight the fragile nature of the ongoing diplomatic efforts between Iran and the United States, as regional tensions linked to the conflict in Lebanon continue to influence broader negotiations.
