The street sign bearing the name of former Serbian Prime Minister Zoran Đinđić, which was installed yesterday in North Mitrovica alongside a sign for Isa Boletini, was removed this morning from its location near the roundabout at the city entrance.

The new street name signs, honoring Isa Boletini and Zoran Đinđić, were installed yesterday by Acting Minister of Spatial Planning Fitore Pacolli, who stated that the naming was carried out in cooperation with the previous administration in North Mitrovica.

The Municipality of North Mitrovica reacted to the decision, stating that the installation of the new street signs had not been announced or coordinated with the legally and legitimately elected municipal representatives, and claiming the move was carried out for political campaign purposes by the Vetëvendosje Movement.

North Mitrovica Mayor Milan Radojević covered the signs with cloth, stating that the decision on street naming was illegal.

Meanwhile, the installation of the sign bearing Zoran Đinđić’s name was also opposed by the Association of KLA War Veterans, while some citizens of South Mitrovica expressed objections, saying that “Isa Boletini and Zoran Đinđić cannot stand in the same place.”
