Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said Wednesday that it had launched ballistic missiles toward a military base used by U.S. forces in Jordan and attacked 10 vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.
The reported attacks came a day after the United States said it had destroyed five Iranian oil tankers, ending a relatively quiet period and bringing renewed confrontation involving military targets, maritime traffic and energy infrastructure.
According to the IRGC, ballistic missiles were launched toward a base near Al Azraq in Jordan that is used by U.S. forces, Reuters reported.
A U.S. official said the attack was ineffective and that all American personnel at the base were safe.
The reported strike marks another direct confrontation between Iran and U.S. interests in the region. Tehran has previously targeted American positions in Jordan, while an earlier attack in July reportedly killed at least two U.S. service members.
The IRGC also claimed to have attacked 10 ships in the Strait of Hormuz, a strategically vital waterway through which a significant share of global oil shipments passes. The claim could not be independently verified based on the information available in the report.
The latest developments underscore the widening scope of the confrontation, with military installations, commercial shipping and energy infrastructure increasingly exposed to the escalating tensions between Iran and the United States.
