The demolition of several structures has begun in the Lake Ujman area of Zubin Potok municipality, with the Kosovo Police providing assistance during the operation.
The operation is being carried out by Kosovo’s Ministry of Environment, Spatial Planning and Infrastructure, while police officers are assisting authorities on the ground, Veton Elshani, deputy director of the Kosovo Police for the North region, confirmed to KoSSev.
It has not yet been confirmed how many structures are included in the operation or how many have been demolished so far.
The action follows orders issued in August requiring property owners to vacate the sites.
On August 12, owners of seven vacation homes in the area were served with notices to vacate the properties. The buildings had previously been sealed and surrounded with police tape on July 23, following an order from the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Rural Development.
According to documents made public at the time, the structures were allegedly built without permits on land that the ministry considers state property. The owners were given 10 days to vacate the properties.
The documents state that the implementation of the decisions is supervised by the relevant inspectors, while the Kosovo Police provides assistance when necessary and upon request from the competent institutions.
The latest operation comes amid continued disputes and enforcement actions concerning the use of land around Lake Ujman, a strategically and politically sensitive area in northern Kosovo.
