A 17-year-old girl has been detained in Ukraine on suspicion of poisoning a Ukrainian serviceman while allegedly acting under instructions from Russian intelligence services.

According to the National Police of Ukraine, the body of a 27-year-old soldier was discovered in a rented apartment in Zhytomyr, located in the north-central part of the country.

Investigators reported finding containers with traces of a powdered substance at the scene. The subsequent investigation led authorities to suspect the teenager’s involvement in the death.

Ukrainian police stated that the girl is believed to have communicated with “a representative of Russian special services.”

According to the police account, she allegedly received a package containing a crystalline substance, preliminarily identified as methadone, through a postal drop box at the end of May. Investigators claim she was instructed to arrange a meeting with the soldier at a specified time and location.

Authorities allege that after accompanying the soldier to a rented apartment, she mixed the substance into his alcoholic drink. Police say she left the apartment after the man lost consciousness.

Ukrainian authorities have opened a preliminary criminal investigation into the case. The allegations remain under investigation, and no court ruling has yet been issued regarding the suspect’s guilt.
