The Acting President of Kosovo, Albulena Haxhiu, paid homage at the “Adem Jashari” Memorial Complex in Prekaz on the occasion of the 27th anniversary of Kosovo’s Liberation Day, reports Ekonomia Online.
On this occasion, she emphasized the historical importance of the Jashari family’s sacrifice and the broader struggle for freedom.
“Today, on June 12, on Liberation Day, we are here in Prekaz, in the place where it all began. There is no June 12 without March 1998, there is no June 12 without the resistance of Commander Adem Jashari, Hamza, Shaban, and more than 50 members of the Jashari family, who fell and never surrendered. They did not defend only the threshold of their home; they defended the land of our ancestors, which was, is, and will always belong to Albanians. They defended the idea that our people can never be defeated. Their sacrifice became the foundation upon which the Kosovo Liberation Army and our free Republic stand today. Therefore, every celebration of this day begins right here, beside these graves. The freedom we enjoy today is their legacy, and it is our duty, both as institutions and as a society, to love Kosovo and honor it through actions that strengthen it every day. Eternal glory to Commander Adem Jashari, eternal glory to the Jashari family, and to all the martyrs of the nation!” she said.
