The Kosovo Security Force (FSK/KSF) has successfully wrapped up its high-profile deployment in the United Kingdom under Operation Interflex, marking a major milestone in Kosovo’s emergence as an active contributor to international security.

Launched as a British-led multinational initiative in response to the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Operation Interflex has been the primary international vehicle for turning civilian recruits into combat-ready infantry. The KSF joined the coalition at the start of 2024, sending specialized personnel to work alongside elite instructors from 13 partner nations, including Canada, Norway, Denmark, and New Zealand.

Five Consecutive Contingents on British Soil

Over the course of its two-year deployment, Pristina rotated five consecutive military contingents to British training grounds. The KSF did not send standard infantry units; instead, it deployed highly specialized instructors and technical personnel to pass on critical tactical expertise directly to frontline Ukrainian forces.

  • Specialized Instruction: KSF teams focused heavily on the core elements of survival and lethality in high-intensity combat zones. This included small-unit tactics, weapons handling, and tactical medicine.
  • Demining and EOD Expertise: Beyond the infantry courses, KSF instructors utilized their extensive domestic experience to run joint programs with the U.S. European Command, training the Ukrainian National Police and State Emergency Services in the hazardous removal of mines and unexploded ordnance (UXO).
Operation Interflex — The KSF Contribution Lifecycle (2024–2026):
[Phase 1: Deployment] --> KSF commits initial 26 specialized instructors to UK military bases.
[Phase 2: Rotation] --> 5 consecutive contingents deliver rapid, intelligence-led tactical training.
[Phase 3: Diversify] --> Parallel execution of Humanitarian Demining & tactical first-aid programs.
[Phase 4: Graduation] --> Transition of Interflex framework to advanced specialist tracks; KSF ends infantry mission.

Strategic Shift to Advanced Capability

The conclusion of the KSF’s specific mission track aligns with a broader structural overhaul of Operation Interflex announced by the British Ministry of Defence earlier this month on June 5, 2026. Having successfully trained over 63,000 Ukrainian personnel in basic infantry warfare, the multinational framework is moving away from mass infantry exercises.

Because Ukrainian forces on the ground have now surpassed Western militaries in modern trench and drone-era infantry tactics, the UK-led coalition is transitioning into a unified, long-term framework focusing purely on highly advanced specialties like aviation, helicopter instructor training, complex engineering, and logistics.
