Kosovo Police units intervened on Thursday to halt local municipal workers from erecting a promotional holiday billboard reading “Zavet Vidovdana” (The Pledge of Vidovdan). The police action occurred in the municipality of Graçanica ahead of the upcoming June 28 Vidovdan holiday, a cultural and religious milestone for the Serbian community.

According to reports from eyewitnesses and field correspondents, police halted the installation process mid-way, specifically citing the word “Zavet” (Pledge/Testament) within the text as politically controversial or ethnically provocative.

Cultural Significance Amid Tightened Security Measures

The Vidovdan holiday marks the historic 1389 Battle of Kosovo and routinely draws thousands of Orthodox Christian pilgrims to the Graçanica Monastery and the nearby Gazimestan monument.

Local community leaders expressed disappointment over the police intervention, viewing the ban on holiday vocabulary as an unnecessary escalation. This dispute occurs against a backdrop of heavily heightened regional policing, as specialized law enforcement units are setting up security checkpoints and traffic detours spanning from North Mitrovica down through Central Kosovo enclaves to manage crowds and prevent localized provocations or ethnically charged standoffs during the annual pilgrimage cycle.
