A criminal complaint is set to be filed today with the Special Prosecution Office of Kosovo against Serbian Minister of Public Administration and Local Self-Government Snežana Paunović over her controversial remarks about the ethnic cleansing of Kosovo.
Attorney Gent Gjini announced that the complaint will also request that Kosovo’s authorities seek an international arrest warrant through Interpol.
According to Gjini, the minister’s statements constitute an attack on Kosovo’s constitutional order and legal security.
He described Paunović’s statement—claiming that if she had been in Slobodan Milošević’s position in 1999, she would have ethnically cleansed Kosovo—as scandalous, dangerous, and unacceptable.
Gjini further argued that, because Paunović serves as a member of the Government of Serbia, her remarks represent a potential threat to the security of Kosovo’s Albanian population.
In addition to submitting the complaint to the Special Prosecution Office, Gjini said copies of the filing will also be sent to foreign embassies in Kosovo and to United Nations (UN) offices operating in the country.
The complaint seeks to initiate a criminal investigation into the minister’s public statements and requests that the relevant authorities consider pursuing international legal measures.
