The 2026 FIFA World Cup Final in New York, where Argentina will face Spain, is expected to attract world leaders and celebrities to the stands of MetLife Stadium.

However, one notable figure will not be in attendance: Argentine President Javier Milei.

Milei has officially confirmed that he will not watch the match from the stadium, citing an unusual reason for a head of state—pure superstition.

Known for his unconventional style and outspoken personality, Milei said he does not want to break the winning ritual that has accompanied Argentina throughout the tournament.

“Will I go to the match? Absolutely not! I’ll watch it at my residence in Olivos with my sister, just as I’ve done since day one. It’s pure superstition,” Milei said, according to the Argentine newspaper El Observador.

In Argentina, where football is often regarded as a national passion, superstitions and match-day rituals are taken very seriously by many supporters.

So, while the world watches the spectacle unfold at MetLife Stadium, Argentina’s president will remain at home with his sister, hoping that staying faithful to his tradition will bring Lionel Messi and the national team another World Cup title.
