The Chairperson of the Kosovo Prosecutorial Council (KPC), Arian Gashi, met on Monday with the Deputy Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General and senior UNMIK official, Milbert Domgjon Shin, to discuss ongoing reforms in Kosovo’s justice system, strengthening the rule of law, and continued cooperation with international partners.
Gashi was accompanied by KPC members Arlinda Muqa, Visar Krasniqi and Milot Krasniqi, while the UN delegation included representatives of the United Nations Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK).
During the meeting, Gashi briefed the UNMIK delegation on the newly constituted Kosovo Prosecutorial Council and the completion of the appointment process for the new Chief State Prosecutor, emphasizing the importance of ensuring the full functionality of Kosovo’s prosecutorial institutions.
He also expressed appreciation for UNMIK’s longstanding support for Kosovo, particularly its contribution to the development and consolidation of the country’s justice system.
A key topic of discussion was the KPC’s commitment to building an inclusive prosecutorial system with fair representation of all communities. Gashi announced that the Council will soon launch a recruitment process for new prosecutors, aimed at improving community representation within Kosovo’s prosecution service.
The KPC chair reiterated the Council’s commitment to meeting international standards and obligations, noting that Kosovo has developed an advanced legal framework with the assistance of international partners. He said the Council will continue to strengthen the rule of law by promoting professionalism, integrity, impartiality and accountability.
For his part, UNMIK Deputy Special Representative Milbert Domgjon Shin praised the work of the Kosovo Prosecutorial Council in safeguarding the independence and effectiveness of the prosecutorial system.
He reaffirmed UNMIK’s confidence in the Council’s efforts and the work of the State Prosecutor, expressing support for continued institutional responsibility and professional commitment to strengthening the rule of law and public trust in the justice system.
The meeting concluded with UNMIK reaffirming its readiness to continue supporting the Kosovo Prosecutorial Council and Kosovo’s justice institutions in advancing reforms and reinforcing the country’s rule of law.
