Radio Television of Serbia (RTS) has dismissed eight editors from their positions, including Gorislav Papić, editor of the current affairs magazine Oko, and Zoran Stanojević, editor of the broadcaster’s news portal.

The dismissals were announced on Thursday by Borivoje Uskoković, acting editor-in-chief of RTS’s News and Current Affairs Program, who confirmed the decisions to the Serbian news outlet Nova.rs.

Those removed from their positions also include Vesna Šiljegović, editor of the program Srbija danas and RTS’s correspondent network; Nikolina Rakić, responsible editor for the morning and Belgrade programs; and Suzana Gvozdenović, responsible editor of the broadcaster’s program department.

Three editors of RTS’s main evening news bulletin, Dnevnik at 7:30 p.m., were also dismissed: Milica Nedić, Dušan Ubović and Ruža Jeremić Turudić.

According to Nova.rs, Papić and Stanojević had earlier declined to say whether they intended to resign.

Changes follow leadership shake-up at RTS

The dismissals come amid a broader leadership shake-up at Serbia’s public broadcaster.

RTS Director General Manja Grčić recently resigned following an ultimatum issued by the student movement, which has called for changes at the broadcaster and greater independence from political influence.

The broadcaster’s management board subsequently appointed Dejan Jovanović as acting director general on Thursday morning.

The latest personnel changes come as the student-backed political movement, which won Serbia’s October 25 parliamentary election, continues to demand institutional reforms and greater accountability in public institutions, including the media.

The developments mark a significant restructuring of RTS’s editorial leadership as pressure mounts for changes to the governance and operations of Serbia’s public broadcaster.
