The fall of Aleksandar Vučić’s government in Serbia is expected to trigger new political dynamics within the country and across the region. Experts on developments in Serbia and the wider region have raised concerns about the policies the Student List will pursue following its election victory, Rks News reports.

Kosovo, the Brussels Dialogue and relations with other countries in the region are among the key issues. German journalist Michael Martens has described the Student List’s political programme as “terrible,” arguing that it follows the same mindset as Aleksandar Vučić.

Speaking in an interview on the issue, Serbian analyst Dušan Janjić said he hoped the Student List would not follow Vučić’s policies and argued that it needed to change both its political approach and its working methods.

“I hope they will not follow Vučić’s methodology and way of managing the entire situation. They need to change their policies, and in particular, they must change their working model. The new government will not be in a position to hold secret talks. Brussels must forget about high-level meetings held behind closed doors,” Janjić stated.

He said the negotiating team would also change and that the new government would need time to familiarise itself with the negotiation process.

Janjić expects the Student List to adopt a more pragmatic and transparent approach to the Brussels Dialogue.

Regarding the Serbian List and its future as a political party following Vučić’s fall from power in Belgrade, Janjić said the party would have to find a new political direction, as it would be neither a partner of the new parliamentary majority nor of the incoming government.

“Looking at what Vučić is doing with his own party, I would say they will abandon it. The Serbian List must find a new political approach because it is not a partner of the new majority or the new government,” Janjić said.
