Acting Prime Minister of Kosovo Albin Kurti has described the opening of Wizz Air’s operational base at Prishtina International Airport “Adem Jashari” as a significant investment and a sign that Kosovo is increasingly being viewed as a reliable destination for foreign investment.
Kurti said the establishment of the airline’s base and the arrival of a new aircraft with a capacity of 239 seats will help expand air connectivity, increase competition and contribute to lower ticket prices for passengers.
“The opening of this base is an important step for the development and connection of Kosovo with Europe,” Kurti said, emphasizing the importance of stronger air links for citizens, businesses and the diaspora.
He noted that Prishtina International Airport has experienced continuous growth in passenger numbers, reaching around 4.6 million travelers and approaching the milestone of five million passengers.
According to Kurti, the expansion of flight routes will strengthen connections with the Kosovo diaspora, support tourism, encourage business activity and attract new investments.
He added that the government’s goal remains to attract more airlines, introduce additional destinations and make air travel more affordable for citizens.
The opening of Wizz Air’s base in Prishtina is expected to increase the airline’s presence in Kosovo and expand travel options between the country and European destinations.
