The Kosovo Police have officially confirmed that the police officer found dead on Wednesday morning in the village of Morinë, in Albania’s Kukës region, was a member of the Rapid Response Unit based in Prizren.
In an official statement, Kosovo Police said they were notified by the Albanian State Police on July 22, 2026, that at approximately 8:25 a.m., a 35-year-old man with the initials S.H., a resident of Prizren, had been found dead at the Morinë cemetery.
“Today, on July 22, 2026, the Kosovo Police were informed by the Police of the Republic of Albania that at around 8:25 a.m., a citizen with the initials S.H., aged 35 and residing in Prizren, was found dead at the cemetery in the village of Morinë. Following the notification, Kosovo Police officers arrived at the scene, where the victim was identified. It was confirmed that the deceased was a police officer serving in the Rapid Response Unit in Prizren. According to the preliminary investigative actions carried out by the Albanian authorities, the 35-year-old is suspected of having died by suicide using a firearm (pistol), which has been seized as material evidence,” the statement said.
Kosovo Police officers traveled to the scene after receiving the notification and formally identified the victim.
According to the preliminary investigation conducted by the Albanian State Police, the officer is believed to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The firearm has been confiscated by the competent authorities as part of the ongoing investigation.
Authorities from Kosovo and Albania are continuing to cooperate to fully establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
