The Kosovo Law Institute (KLI), as part of a citizens’ legislative initiative to amend and supplement the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kosovo, will organize today an activity marking the start of collecting citizens’ signatures in support of this initiative.
The activity will take place at “Mother Teresa” Square in Prishtina, where citizens will have the opportunity to sign a petition supporting the proposed amendments to the Criminal Code.
In an interview with Ekonomia Online, KLI Senior Researcher Gzim Shala stated that the initiative comes as a response to the continued failure to respect decisions of the Constitutional Court and the need to strengthen the rule of law.
“Yes, initially, such an initiative, as announced by KLI, represents the first step — the initial action to notify the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo about the launch of such an initiative, which is based on the Constitution of the Republic of Kosovo and the Law on Legislative Initiatives. The reasons why we have raised this issue are related to two main matters: the implementation of decisions of the Constitutional Court and the criminalization of actions by political actors who are in power through actions that undermine political competition,” Shala said.
