Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman held a phone conversation with U.S. President Donald Trump, during which he called for reducing tensions in the Middle East, according to Saudi Arabia’s state news agency.
Earlier, sources told CNN that the Crown Prince had expressed concerns about plans for possible military strikes against Iran during the conversation.
According to the Saudi Press Agency, the Crown Prince “stressed the importance of prioritizing dialogue to reduce escalation and emphasized the need to make every possible effort to achieve calm, paving the way for diplomatic solutions.”
CNN previously reported that Trump spoke with the Saudi Crown Prince on Saturday, citing four people familiar with the matter and a regional source. Several individuals briefed on the conversation said Mohammed bin Salman voiced concerns over the possibility of military action against Iran.
Since then, Trump has reportedly canceled the planned strikes, citing progress in ongoing diplomatic talks.
