KFOR Commander, Turkish Major General Özkan Ulutaş, has identified inflammatory rhetoric and the continued spread of disinformation as two developments that pose concerns for the security environment in Kosovo.
Speaking to KosovaPress, Ulutaş said these phenomena could affect the stability of the situation and, for that reason, KFOR remains vigilant and well-positioned throughout the territory of Kosovo.
“Inflammatory rhetoric and the continued use of disinformation are among our concerns, given the impact they may have on the security environment. For this reason, KFOR remains vigilant and well-positioned across Kosovo,” Ulutaş stated.
The commander of NATO’s troops in Kosovo emphasized that long-term security cannot be achieved through military means alone, but through a political process.
According to him, the EU-facilitated dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia remains the primary framework for addressing unresolved issues.
“KFOR will continue to play its role as part of NATO’s broader efforts to support the advancement of the European Union-facilitated dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina,” he said.
Ulutaş added that this process should lead to solutions that respect the rights of all communities and contribute to lasting security in Kosovo.
His remarks come at a time when the security situation in Kosovo continues to be closely monitored by local institutions and NATO’s mission, particularly following the armed attack in Banjska, Zvečan, in September 2023.
