A group of citizens protested this Sunday in the center of Shkodër, expressing their dissatisfaction with the government and opposing the planned opening of a Serbian consulate in the city.
The protesters marched through the streets of Shkodër carrying Albanian flags and banners, declaring during speeches that the establishment of a Serbian consulate in the city is unacceptable.
According to the protesters, Shkodër has no historical, economic, or diplomatic ties that would justify the presence of a Serbian consulate. They also argued that such a move is unacceptable in light of the crimes committed by Serbian forces during the Kosovo War, emphasizing that thousands of Albanians were killed and massacred during the conflict.
“They want to open a Serbian consulate in Shkodër. Shame, shame. Serbia is neither an EU member state nor a leading country in Europe. The wounds and the mass graves are still fresh. We have suffered greatly—the displacement and expulsion of an entire people,” one protester said.
The demonstrators called on the authorities to reconsider the decision and prevent the opening of the Serbian consulate in Shkodër.
During the protest, participants also chanted slogans against the government. The demonstration concluded without any incidents.
