World-famous singer Katy Perry raised the flag of the Republic of Kosovo during her performance at the internationally known Sunny Hill Festival in Pristina, a move that sparked criticism from pro-government Serbian media.
Now, after Perry travelled to Kotor, Montenegro, with her partner Justin Trudeau to spend several days there, Serbian media outlets have launched attacks against the singer, describing her gesture of raising Kosovo’s flag during the Pristina festival as “controversial.”
The Serbian tabloid Kurir published a headline stating: “After the scandal with the flag of the state of Kosovo, the singer goes to Kotor.”
Meanwhile, another pro-government outlet, Informer, criticised Montenegro’s authorities, claiming that Podgorica had “rolled out the red carpet for a woman who violated our integrity with a flag of…” referring to Kosovo’s flag.
The reaction from Serbian media highlights the continued sensitivity surrounding Kosovo’s symbols and international recognition, even in cultural and entertainment events.
