A civic protest organized by the Revolta Movement is scheduled to take place today outside the Kosovo Assembly in Prishtina, with demonstrators calling for the repeal of the country’s citizenship law.
According to the organizers, the protest will begin at 10:00 in Ibrahim Rugova Square and is being held under the slogan of defending the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Kosovo.
The organizers have presented three main demands.
They are calling for the publication of data on the number of citizenship applications submitted and citizenships granted to Serbian citizens under Kosovo’s citizenship legislation. They are also demanding the repeal of Law No. 10/L-023 on the Citizenship of the Republic of Kosovo, as well as the repeal of Article 155 of the Constitution of Kosovo.
“This is not a party issue. It is an issue of sovereignty, citizenship and the future of the Republic of Kosovo,” the Revolta Movement said in its call for participation.
The protest comes amid renewed public debate over citizenship procedures and concerns among some groups regarding the potential demographic and political implications of the granting of Kosovo citizenship to citizens of Serbia.
