The European Union Office in Kosovo has stated that political actors in the country must find solutions to establish new institutions without further delays. The EU said it remains committed to supporting Kosovo but emphasized that functional institutions are necessary for the country to continue its path toward European integration.
In a response to Gazeta Express, the EU Office declined to comment on ongoing talks between the Vetëvendosje Movement (LVV) and the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) regarding a possible coalition, saying that such matters are for the political parties themselves to decide.
However, the EU reiterated its call for Kosovo’s political leaders to resolve the institutional deadlock so that the country can continue advancing on its European integration path.
“The EU does not comment on ongoing political discussions, negotiations, or potential coalition agreements between political parties. It is up to Kosovo’s political actors to find solutions and ensure the establishment of stable and functional institutions.”
The EU stressed that it remains committed to supporting Kosovo’s democratic development and its European perspective.
“It is important that stable institutions are established without delay and are able to respond to citizens’ needs, advance necessary reforms, and move forward Kosovo’s agenda related to European Union integration.”
Similar calls were made by the United States and German embassies, which warned about the consequences of the ongoing political crisis that has affected Kosovo since February 2025.
The U.S. Embassy stated that Kosovo’s political leadership must cooperate to form institutions in accordance with the Constitution and the decisions of the Constitutional Court.
“The people of Kosovo expect their leaders to fulfill their commitment to work in the best interest of the country.”
The embassy warned that the continued political deadlock is costing Kosovo important opportunities.
“This ongoing political stalemate is costing Kosovo lost opportunities. The time has come for leaders to prioritize progress and stability for the benefit of all citizens.”
Meanwhile, the German Embassy emphasized that “Kosovo has no time to lose” and that institutions with a full mandate are needed.
“We hope that the new institutions will be formed in due time and with a full mandate, so that we can continue working on our shared European agenda with Kosovo.”
Despite these calls from international partners, Kosovo’s Assembly was not constituted today after acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti requested additional time for discussions regarding the election of the President.
The constitutional deadline for completing the Assembly’s constitution expires tomorrow.
