Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić has sparked controversy with remarks linking the political representation and future of Serbs in Kosovo to the continued existence of Srpska Lista, the main Kosovo Serb political party backed by Belgrade.

Speaking during a visit to Kuršumlija, Vučić said: “The day there is no Srpska Lista, there will be no Serbs in Kosovo.”

Vučić later clarified that by “Srpska Lista” he was referring not only to the political party itself, but to what he described as a force representing Belgrade, Serbia and the Serb population as a whole in Kosovo.

“Rašić and his associates will remain. When I say Srpska Lista, I do not mean Srpska Lista, but someone who represents Belgrade and Serbia, among others, and the Serb people as a whole in Kosovo,” Vučić said.

The remarks have raised concerns over the political representation of Kosovo Serbs who do not support Srpska Lista or who hold political positions different from those promoted by Belgrade.

Critics could interpret the statement as linking the identity and political future of Kosovo’s Serb community to a single political organization, rather than recognizing the community’s political diversity.

The comments also raise questions about whether Serbs in Kosovo who oppose Srpska Lista or disagree with Belgrade’s political positions are being excluded from the broader political narrative surrounding the community.

Vučić also addressed the issue of the main bridge over the Ibër River in Mitrovica, saying he would send a letter to NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte regarding the matter.

The Serbian president’s comments come amid continued political tensions between Belgrade and Prishtina, as well as ongoing disputes over the political representation, security and rights of Kosovo’s Serb community.
