PRIZREN — Italian troops serving with NATO-led KFOR’s Regional Command West have carried out regular patrols on foot and by vehicle across Prizren, reinforcing the mission’s visible presence on the ground.
According to KFOR, the patrols allow its units to maintain close awareness of the security situation while ensuring that the mission remains visibly and continuously present throughout its area of responsibility.
The message from KFOR is clear: its mission remains active and its presence remains an important part of maintaining a safe and secure environment in Kosovo.
The Italian-led Regional Command West is headquartered at Camp Villaggio Italia in Peja and covers western Kosovo, including the Prizren area. NATO says its regional commands are designed to maintain a mobile and flexible presence capable of responding to potential security developments across Kosovo.
The latest patrols also demonstrate Italy’s continuing role within the NATO mission. In July, the Italian “Cavalleggeri di Lodi” regiment took command of Regional Command West, replacing the “Lancieri di Novara” regiment as part of the regular rotation of Italian forces.
KFOR stressed that its activities are intended to contribute to a safe and secure environment and guarantee freedom of movement for all people living in Kosovo.
The NATO-led mission continues to operate under UN Security Council Resolution 1244 and coordinates closely with the Kosovo Police and the EU Rule of Law Mission in Kosovo (EULEX), within their respective security roles.
The patrols in Prizren come as KFOR continues to maintain a visible presence across Kosovo, underscoring that NATO’s security commitment to the country remains firmly in place.
Italian soldiers on Kosovo’s streets are more than a routine patrol—they are a visible reminder that NATO remains present, vigilant and committed to Kosovo’s security.
