Lawyer Arianit Koci has published a letter addressed to Acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti, Acting President Albulena Haxhiu and Minister of Internal Affairs Xhelal Sveçla, calling on them to ensure that Kosovo citizens arrested in Serbia are not left without professional legal assistance.
Koci said that he has repeatedly taken on such cases as a lawyer.
“Free of charge. I also covered the expenses myself,” he wrote.
The lawyer said that Serbian authorities have recently detained him several times for “additional checks.”
“The message is clear: I am not welcome in Serbia. Every trip there exposes me to risk and limits my ability to stand up for our citizens.
Therefore, on August 19, I addressed the Prime Minister, with copies sent to the President and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, with a concrete proposal: that I continue this engagement in coordination with our institutions.
I have still not received a response. Today, I am making the letter public,” he wrote.
