In his new position, he will serve as the principal military adviser to NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.
Germany’s Chief of Defence, General Carsten Breuer, has been elected as the next Chair of the NATO Military Committee, the Alliance’s highest military body.
Breuer was elected by the defence chiefs of NATO’s 32 member states during a meeting in Copenhagen.
He will take office in July 2027 and serve a three-year term, succeeding Italian Admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone.
In this position, Breuer will serve as NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte’s principal military adviser. He will also convey the recommendations of the member states’ military leaders to the Alliance’s political leadership, TV Klan reports.
His appointment comes at a time when NATO is strengthening its defence and deterrence measures in response to potential threats from Russia.
